In Eupdong ri, Anjwado, there is a north-style "ㄱ"-shaped roof-tile house called Saengga built by the tree grown in Baekdu mountin and moved here in 1910 (Regional Treasure No. 146 designated by the province) in intact condition that continues to attract many junior painters. As such, Anjwado, famous for the home of painter Hwan-Ki Kim, was named after "An" of Anchangdo and "Jwa" of Gijwado. It is an island myeon located in the center of 14 eups/myeons of Shinan-gun and 22.9km away from Mokpo (longitude 126°08′ east and latitude 34°34′ north). It is composed of 10 inhabited islands and 53 uninhabited islands and the coastline is 91.4km.
There are many high mountains and few vast fields, but by blocking tidal lands, salterns and algae aquaculture were made possible, which bring high income to the residents. Anjwado and Palgeumdo are connected with a bridge (Shinan bridge 1) and became the same-living area. It keeps its own uniqueness and is a place to worth to visit.
Anjwado has well-preserved dolmens, relics from Bronze era and the dolmens in Bangwol ri were designated by the province as Regional Cultural Asset Material No. 117 and attract many history students. It is the southern-style of grid plate-type and it was said that there used to be 7 pieces and they were called "7-star rock". But currently, there are only 4 pieces left. In the graves, stone knives, plain-style earthen containers, stone arrow tips, etc. were excavated and in 6 areas of Anjwado, there remains 55 dolmens.
Laver is famous in Anjwado and floating method adopted by other areas than Shinan-gun is not used. It is aqua-cultured by setting up poles and since it is sunlit when the water comes and goes by the ebb and flow, it does not require pesticides. Thus, it is organic and tasty. In the land, people misunderstand that blackish lavers without blue algae are of a good quality but lavers from Shinan, including those of Anjwa, have a little bit of algae and these lavers taste the best and are organic because pesticides are not used.
Another specialty of Anjwa is big white shrimp aqua-cultivated in small or big-sized farms. For freshwater fishing, Shinchoji is good and carps, common carps, freshwater eels are taken. Sea-fishing is also popular and as for famous spots, there are Bukji, Doraedo, Yoryeokdo, Umokdo, Banwoldo, etc. and breams, sea basses, and mullets are well taken.
The main island of Anjwado doe not have sandy beach and Utseom, Sachido, which is a subdo, has small and cozy beach and is a good place for vacationers preferring a quiet place. Fishing is good in Sachido, too.
